A $10 Shot Turns Into Something Bigger
On April 5th, 72oooo played in a satellite tournament with a $10 buy-in.
The objective was simple win the tournament and get a $108 ticket into the next tournament.
With only 14 players, the margin for error was minimal. Winning the tournament outright was the only option.
In under 30 minutes, 72oooo had achieved this goal.
72oooo secured 1st place and began the first leg of the journey.
A few hours after winning the first tournament, 72oooo used his ticket to enter the second Step tournament, where a total of 44 players competed for just 4 tickets, each valued at $1,050.
Again, the pressure was extremely high; only a top finish place would give him the opportunity to continue the dream.
After roughly 85 minutes of play, 72oooo had once again achieved success by securing one of the four tickets. 72oooo was off to yet another tournament.
Climbing the Ladder Without Slowing Down
For many online poker players, taking time off between wins is essential.
However, 72oooo quickly entered an upcoming satellite tournament where only 2 of 24 players would earn $10,000 tickets to GGMillion$ High Roller.
This tournament was a more difficult stage than any of the previous ones.
Nonetheless, he was able to continue with his incredible run.
After approximately a few hours of play, 72oooo was able to finish within the top 2 places and win the $10,000 entry ticket to the GGMillion$ High Rollers.
Therefore, as of this point, 72oooo had successfully turned his initial $10 into a 10x multiplier.
However, their greatest challenge still existed in a major tournament event.
Facing the Best With the Smallest Stack
The last event attracted a highly competitive field of players, including one player who has millions of dollars in cash and tournament winnings, Bernhard Binder, and another professional player, Aram Oganyan, both of whom are seasoned veterans at the tables.
To make it to the final table as a short stack was a massive success for 72oooo.
However, being at the final table as one of the last nine players left 72oooo with few large expectations, given his limited equity.
Actually, 72oooo was a massive underdog with the odds of 22-to-1 to win the tournament.
At that point most players would have just packed it in; 72oooo stayed patient and continued making good decisions.
The breakthrough moment for 72oooo came after eliminating Brazil's Lucas Rocha, and the tournament reached five-handed play.
The momentum for 72oooo had started to turn in their favour.
A Comeback for the Ages
As the tournament neared the end, 72oooo had an incredible change. There were only four players left, and all of a sudden he was the chip leader.
72oooo had more than 12 million chips in play, while each of the other three players had less than 4 million chips.
72oooo bulldozed his way and applied pressure and eliminated two players in quick succession.
When the tournament reached heads-up play, 72oooo held more than half of the chips in play. The finish was very close.
The final hand happened very quickly. 72oooo had pocket fours against their opponent, who had ace-ten.
The chips went into the middle for this hand and the board was dealt out with no aces on the board.
The pocket fours held up for 72oooo, and that was the end of the tournament.
A Life-Changing Win in Just Hours
With only 11 hours of playtime behind them, 72oooo made one of the most impressive runs in GGPoker history.
72oooo started with a $10 satellite and turned it into $411,000 in cash.
Luck alone can’t explain this amazing run, as it took a lot of skill and quick thinking to keep up with the increasing level of pressure through every stage of play.
As the competition grew tougher, so did the stakes, but for each level 72oooo completed, he continued to dominate the competition.
Players enjoy stories like this because they show that you can win big, even with a small initial investment.
